The manufacturer of Emirates

His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum

Sheik is an honorific in the Arabic language that literally means “elder” and carries the meaning “leader and/or governor”. It is commonly used to designate the front man of a tribe  who got this title after his father, or an Islamic scholar who got this title after graduating from the basic Islamic school. The title is sometimes more informally used with regard to people who have a certain financial or political influence, but especially in relation to royalty and other nobility.

A sheikh who is wise is called akīm adjective (wise) حكيم‎, ākim noun (governor) حاكم‎, yakum verb (govern) يحكم‎; and can govern.

“A perfect Leader, to put the things in the right place! We all have seen as what Emirates as an airline & Dubai Civil aviation has achieved under his leadership. A very good movement by HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum named his uncle Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum as a Chairman and Chief Executive of the Emirates Airline and President of DCAA and Chairman of Dubai Airports, this way becoming one of the most prominent figure from the Middle East. “

Over the past 25 years His Highness Sheikh Ahmed Bin Saeed Al Maktoum has been a highly successful corporate leader, when he was appointed President of the Dubai Department of Civil Aviation and Chairman of the newly-launched Emirates Airline. The phenomenal growth of Dubai’s aviation industry under his stewardship is testimony to Sheikh Ahmed’s grand vision and foresight.

With the right captain at the helm, the journey will be nothing but successful. “As a lay person I only wish that every person working for Dubai World will enjoy the same peace and stability we enjoy at Emirates. He is a man capable of holding and sailing a ship in the roughest waters. That’s why Dubai World is going only forward. There is no return for this ship.” This is the opinions of Emirates citizens.

“Everyone can see his exemplary leadership in building Emirates. No doubt he will stir the ship in the right direction and see Dubai World to safe landing and well planned to take off. His leadership is commendable. We wish Sheikh Ahmed well along with success to Dubai World and HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum whose vision for Dubai and the changes he brought during these times, as a true leader to fulfil the Vision to make Dubai a CITY OF HIS PEOPLE DREAMS” – as the locals said.

“In the air and on the ground, the Emirates Group is committed to acting sustainably in the interests of our customers, our business, the natural environment and the over 120 destinations we serve worldwide.”  Who flew Emirates or visited Dubai, knows that those are facts not simple words.

Through his personal vision, commitment and extremely broad-mindedness, he brought Emirates Airlines at the level of the best company in the world: “The incredible success of Emirates and Dubai are intricately linked. Dubai is a dynamic and vibrant city, and it has played a key role in shaping Emirates into the carrier that it is today. In the last 27 years, Emirates and Dubai have grown alongside each other. With its vast network of global destinations, all connected via its Dubai hub, Emirates has helped to showcase the unique vitality of the city. Dubai is centrally located between East and West, with access to two-thirds of the world’s population via a maximum eight-hour flight. This geographical positioning has served to provide us with a unique advantage and one that we have certainly capitalized on.” His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum declared.

The philosophy of Emirates is something that many companies are avoiding– The Competition, which always comes from its leader’s vision.

“At Emirates we believe that competition is good for the industry, and importantly, it is even better for the customer. Competition between airlines serves to stimulate demand. It keeps airlines on their toes and ensures that they work harder to win a customer’s patronage. Emirates operate from Dubai International Airport, which operates under an unconditional open-skies policy. This policy has ensured that we remain competitive. Emirates does not benefit from any form of government subsidy, and this has proved to be a key measure of our success. Standing on our own we continue to thrive, remaining profitable through challenging times and remaining the carrier of choice for the 44 million passengers that travelled with us every year. Our strategy for success remains the same, no matter how many competitors there are. We continue to stay true to our proven business model, growing organically with new, modern aircraft and carefully selected destinations that we know will provide a strong return. Our young fleet of aircraft, growing network, world-class service, and competitive prices have helped to ensure that we continue to attract new customers as well as retain those who already fly with us.”
Growth is an important part of any company’s survival, and for Emirates our growth is directly attributable to the number of passengers that choose to travel with us. It is for this reason that we invest billions of dollars each year in expanding our service offering by way of new destinations, new aircraft, and innovative, customer-focused products. In the last five years Emirates’ route network has grown by nearly 40%.”

Dubai World Central — Al Maktoum International Airport — the center for the future aviation and Dubai’s logistics needs. There is no doubt that the new airport will play an increasingly important role in the Emirates’ long-term aviation goals. The Emirates aim to move to the new Dubai World Central airport between 2022 and 2030, and plan to add hundreds of aircrafts and destinations over the following decades. We are the main driver behind its construction and we will be the principal customer.

Citizens of United Arab Emirates are more than convinced that if the world had leaders like His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum the conflictual situation in some parts of the Middle East could be different.  In fact, we all know this.

Through his philosophy and business development and achievement, he proves that Arab world is not about terrorism and destroying things. His vision and commitment is a “slap” in the face for all those who blame the Arabs. The Emirates represent the real Arab philosophy – a combination of mystery, class and the most important: the feeling of flying with the best. Who was traveling at least once in Dubai understands the meaning of Arab philosophy. Many expats are working and living in Dubai. Personally I want to add my respect for this nation who gives the opportunity to many foreigners who are living and working with the Emirates to achieve their goals in life.

Besides the titles enumerated above, Sheikh Ahmed holds a number of government positions and plays an increasingly pivotal role in leading the emirates’ finance and energy sectors; and despite his numerous business activities, he is Patron to many charitable organizations. He has also received numerous recognitions and accolades from various Governments and multinationals.

His Highness Sheikh Ahmed has a Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Denver, Colorado, USA. He is well known internationally for his contribution to the development of aviation in the region. The Royal Aeronautical Society, one of the industry’s oldest and most respected professional associations honored his achievements in aviation with a fellowship of the Society at the 1994 Farnborough Air Show in the UK.

He is a popular sportsman (mostly water sports). But he’s definitely well liked locally and respected due to his business acumen and not his political breeding. Ahmed bin Saeed’s mother is originally from Ras Al Khaimah (another of the seven emirates in the UAE) from a prominent tribe. I don’t know if this is true, but I believe that at one stage the Maktoums conspired against him and banished him to the UK for a while out of fear from him seizing the “throne”. He was then returned on condition that he would not get involved in politics. He is a very dynamic person and one of the most visionary and generous leaders in the world.

With Sheikh Ahmed guiding the fledgling carrier as its Chairman, another success story is already in the making. Within three years of its launch Flydubai has emerged as the second largest contributor to traffic at Dubai International, and flies to more than 45 destinations.
